Not a whole lot of work on projects, but that's what weekends are for, yes? We did some research into the area we had a lead on. Result: you can live east of the city, within reasonable commuting distance, with real amounts of land, for less half of what it costs to live west of the city. Unfortunately, this is because there are fewer resources of every sort and no public services. Also, you have to live in seriously ultraconservative neighborhoods. Obviously this is not a good long-term solution. We're still discussing whether it might be acceptable short-term. Answer: probably not yet.

We also went to the monthly suburban science fiction society party. We volunteered to host the next one, because we are insane.

And today, we saw King Kong. Since I've wanted to get to it for a month, that counts as an accomplishment, right? One-sentence review: Peter Jackson may not be enough of a genius to handle Tolkien, but he is still a genius.

East of the city is a big lake. Where are you talking about?

Southeast, really. We were looking at northwest Indiana.

*shudders* My cousins lived all over northern Indiana when I was growing up. The whole state is the armpit of the Midwest. To me it's more like the northernmost outpost of the South than anything else. Inbred redneck heaven.

So we have been told. We'll avoid it if we can.
