1) I am home from visiting S's family.  I love my in-laws, but am warm for the first time in two days.

2) While in Ann Arbor, I found a place that will sell quail eggs to civilians.  I seem to be picking up my Technocracy game character's hobby of finding awesome ingredients and then researching what to do with them.  Best candidate so far--miniature eggs benedict on home-made croutons.

3) I have given in to pressure and joined the collective--I now have a Facebook page under my professorial name.  This basically exists so that I can check off the "understands social media" box on forms.  Impressions so far: the privacy settings are as evil as everyone says, and the interface reminds me a lot of Clippy The Cheerful Winking Paper Clip.

4) From my early Christmas gifts, I have stripey Garcia socks and a Tesla token!

5) There is a total lunar eclipse on for tonight Monday night.  Nothing visible yet; I think I'll stay up just a little longer. At 1 AM, I cannot read clearly; this is a good sign that I should go to bed.

A while back, [livejournal.com profile] papersky fed us quail eggs boiled in the shell, which were pleasant, but not that different from hard-boiled chicken eggs.

I'm not a big fan of hard-boiled eggs--I'm thinking poaching will bring out the flavor better, as it does with chicken eggs.

I think hard boiled quail eggs are delicious. If you like hard boiled eggs generally, I recommend them. They're also lovely hard boiled and then put hot into pitas with mayonnaise.

Essentially, in the same way that quail is smaller more delicious chicken, quail eggs are smaller more delicious eggs.

They are absolutely wonderful hard boiled and wrapped in smoked salmon. Z discovered this, adn I've since done it as a canape.

I get them fairly often because my local halal store always has them and I can seldom walk past them when I see them.

I can seldom walk past them when I see them.

Apparently, neither can I.

I'm not a big fan of hard-boiled eggs, although With Smoked Salmon sounds yummy.

...I could make the eggs benedict with smoked salmon as the meat.

I saw a couple of versions of that when I was looking up recipes.

But isn't LJ worth a check on the "understands social media" box? It's a heck of a lot more interesting.
